A drill press is designed to quickly, easily, and precisely drill through dense lumber, metals, and plastics. 

It has a long open shaft that rotates very quickly and with great force. Getting caught up by the rotating shaft can do you serious damage. Drill presses can stick or catch on the material you are drilling and cause the material to suddenly rotate violently and injure you by hitting your hands or ejecting the material. Care and respect must be given when operating a drill press.
