General Policies for the Woodturning Studio

YOU MUST BE APPROVED BY THE STUDIO MANAGER BEFORE YOU CAN USE ANY EQUIPMENT IN THE WOODTURNING STUDIO. NO EXCEPTIONS! NAMES OF APPROVED MEMBERS WILL BE LISTED ON THE SIGN-IN BOARD. Contact Roger on Slack

SAFETY FIRST - Do not use any equipment if you are under the influence of drugs or drink. Wear eye & face protection whenever the lathe is turned on. Closed-toe shoes are required in the studio. Do not wear loose or baggy clothing around the lathe when it is turned on. Make sure you or anyone else is not in "THE LINE OF FIRE" when turning on the lathe. Do not put paint rags in the trash can. Take them to the dumpster. Store all flammable finishes in the studio paint locker.

CLEANLINESS SECOND - Before beginning your work turn on the overhead dust collection. ALWAYS use direct dust collection when your lathe is in use. When finished working, vacuum and sweep around your work area. If the floor is dusty run the dust mop over it. Put your project and tools away. Do not leave them on the community work benches. Empty the trash can if it is full. Do not clean paint brushes in our bathroom. There is a slop sink out back for that purpose. Help keep our bathroom clean.

LEAVING PROCEDURE - Check the SHOP VAC canister and filter. Empty and clean filter when needed. Turn off both air conditioners and the fan. Turn off the overhead dust collector. Clean it's filter if needed. Lock up or remove your personal tools. Sign out on the check in clip board. Turn off the overhead lights. Close the door behind you.

GENERAL PROCEDURE - Use the check in clipboard to sign in and out of the studio. Respect other members' property. Do not use their tools or supplies without their permission. Give your work undivided attention. Looking around, carrying on a conversation and “horseplay” are careless acts that can result in serious injury. If the portable air conditioner beeps and displays FL, empty the water tank. The studio is available 24/7 for your enjoyment.
